What does Play Billing ERROR (6) mean?

Play Billing ERROR (6) means a fatal error inside Google Play during the billing call.

Cause#

Google describes it as an internal Google Play error that may be transient or caused by an unexpected condition during processing.
The code does not say which call or condition failed, so the debug message and your own logs are the only detail.
It is not caused by your arguments (that is DEVELOPER_ERROR) or by the network (that is NETWORK_ERROR).

Fix#

Retry with exponential backoff for background work; use a simple retry when the person is waiting.
Mind how long you retry during a user interaction, as Google advises.
Log the response code, debug message and Play Store version so you can report a persistent case.
Contact Google Play support if the error keeps coming back.
