What is an introductory offer?
Introductory offer
An introductory offer is a limited-time free trial or discounted price for the first period of a subscription, meant for people who have not subscribed before. The App Store has three types: free trial, pay as you go and pay up front. Each person can use one per subscription group. On Google Play an introductory price is an offer phase.
Apple's three types differ in when the customer pays. A free trial costs nothing for the offer period. Pay as you go charges a discounted price each billing period, for example $1.99 a month for three months on a $9.99 plan. Pay up front charges one discounted amount for the whole offer, for example $9.99 for the first six months of a $39.99 yearly plan. After the offer the subscription renews at the standard price. The allowed lengths depend on the subscription duration, and you can have one current and one future introductory offer per storefront. Once created, an introductory offer cannot be edited. You delete it and create a new one.
Eligibility is per subscription group, not per product. If a customer used a free trial and then moves to another product in the same group that also has a trial, they do not get a second one. Check eligibility before you show offer text in your app, because the App Store product page shows the offer only to people who qualify.
On Google Play an offer holds one or more phases. An introductory price phase must be the same as or lower than the base plan price. It can be one payment or from 1 to 52 recurrences of the billing period, and a free trial phase can come first. RevenueDot records each period's offer type: free_trial for a free offer and introductory for a paid one.

FAQ
Introductory offer: questions people ask
How many introductory offers can one customer use?
On the App Store, one per subscription group, even if several products in the group have an offer. Google Play applies the eligibility rule that you set on each offer.
What is the difference between pay as you go and pay up front?
Pay as you go charges a discounted price every billing period during the offer. Pay up front charges one discounted amount at the start for the whole offer period.
Can I edit an introductory offer after I create it?
Not on the App Store. You delete the offer and create a new one. Overlapping offers overwrite each other, and the latest action wins.
