Ad clicks: count how often users open ads in your app

Ad clicks counts the times users opened an ad in your app. RevenueDot counts one click for each ad opened event the SDK sends and groups them by UTC day, week or month. Clicks are the numerator of click-through rate, and they show which apps, countries and platforms get engagement.

Formula

Clicks = number of ad opened events (rc_ads_ad_opened) in the period

Definition

How RevenueDot calculates Clicks

RevenueDot counts rc_ads_ad_opened events. Your SDK ad tracking sends them to RevenueDot's /v1/events endpoint, either from an ad network adapter or by manual capture. Whether a click is reported depends on what your adapter or your own code sends, so an app that never sends opened events shows zero.

RevenueDot drops a repeated event id, so one event counts once. Sandbox and TestFlight events are stored as sandbox and left out. The count is a flow in UTC, and the current period is incomplete until it ends.

Filter or segment by app, country, platform and app version. The default resolution is day, and week, month, quarter and year are available.

Find it in the dashboard under Analytics > Charts, or call GET /v2/projects/{project_id}/charts/ad_clicks. The response has the same shape as RevenueCat's Charts API.

Worked example

Clicks, step by step

Illustrative numbers for one week, segmented by country.

CountryAd opened events
United States300
Germany120
Brazil180

Unsegmented, the chart shows 300 + 120 + 180 = 600 clicks for the week.

Why it matters

What Clicks tells you

Clicks show whether people engage with your ads. They matter most for networks and formats that pay for taps, and for judging whether a placement is annoying users with accidental taps.

Raw clicks rise whenever impressions rise, so read them as a rate. Use CTR to compare placements, countries and app versions on equal terms, and Ad Revenue to check that more clicks bring more money.

How to read it

  • Judge clicks with CTR, because clicks grow when impressions grow.
  • A spike in clicks with flat revenue can mean accidental taps near buttons. Check the placement.
  • Clicks are not revenue. Some networks pay per impression and others per click, and revenue comes only from revenue events.
  • Zero clicks can mean your adapter does not send opened events, not that nobody tapped.
  • Segment by app version to find the release that changed a placement.

FAQ

Clicks: questions people ask

What counts as an ad click in RevenueDot?

One ad opened event sent by your SDK. RevenueDot counts each such event once.

What is the difference between clicks and CTR?

Clicks are a count. CTR is clicks divided by impressions, as a percent. CTR lets you compare periods with different numbers of ads shown.

Why do I see zero ad clicks?

RevenueDot has received no ad opened events for your filters and dates. Your adapter may not send them, or the build may be a sandbox build.

Do clicks change ad revenue in RevenueDot?

Not directly. Revenue comes from ad revenue events, whatever the click count. Clicks are an engagement measure.

Can I see ad clicks by country?

Yes. Segment or filter the chart by app, country, platform or app version in the dashboard, or with the segment and filters parameters in the API.
