Comparison

RevenueCat vs Superwall vs RevenueDot: price, paywalls and self-hosting compared

The short answer

All three run entitlements and purchases for the App Store and Google Play; they differ on price and where they run. RevenueCat charges 1% of all tracked revenue from $2,500 a month and has SOC 2 and the longest record. Superwall's infrastructure is free and it bills 1% only on revenue from its own paywalls above $10K. RevenueDot is open source, keeps the RevenueCat SDK, is free on Cloud to $10K with a $999 cap, and can be self-hosted.

Choose RevenueCat if

  • You sell on Amazon, Samsung Galaxy Store or Paddle, which Superwall's docs say it does not cover and RevenueDot has not yet run on live purchases for Paddle and Galaxy Store.
  • You want SOC 2 Type II and an established vendor behind your purchase path.
  • You want in-app currency and ad-revenue reporting from the same vendor, with years of production history.

Choose Superwall if

  • Paywall design and experiments drive your revenue, and you want the deepest tools for them.
  • Most of your revenue comes from outside its paywalls, so you would pay little or nothing.
  • You want App-to-Web Checkout and SQL access to your subscription data.

Choose RevenueDot if

  • You want to keep the RevenueCat SDK, and self-host or own your purchase database.
  • You want paywalls, experiments and charts included, with no billing split by paywall and a bill that never passes $999 a month on Cloud.
  • You accept a young project in return for open source: first release v2026.10.03, running next to RevenueCat in a production app since October 2, 2026.

Price

What each costs per month

Formulas: RevenueCat charges 1% of all monthly tracked revenue once you reach $2,500, so $10,000 costs $100. Superwall's upper bound assumes every dollar converts through a Superwall paywall, billed at 1% of it once it passes $10K, with $0 if none does; Startup and Scale add $49 and $199 a month. RevenueDot Cloud is free up to $10,000 a month. Above that, Cloud Standard charges 0.5% of the revenue above $10,000, capped at $999 a month. Self-hosting has no revenue share, only your own server costs. Enterprise plans are custom and not shown.

Three pricing models, one sentence each

RevenueCat counts every dollar it tracks: nothing up to $2,500 a month, then 1% of all of it, with no ceiling, so $1,000,000 a month costs $10,000.

Superwall gives the subscription layer away and counts only purchases that convert through its paywalls: nothing up to $10,000 of that revenue, then 1% of it, plus $49 or $199 a month on the Startup and Scale plans.

RevenueDot counts every dollar above $10,000 a month at 0.5% and stops at $999, so $1,000,000 a month costs $999 on Cloud and $0 self-hosted.

Where each one is weaker

  • RevenueCat: the only one of the three with no price cap and no free tier past $2,500, and no way to run it yourself.
  • Superwall: your app moves to Superwall's SDK, it does not cover Amazon or Roku, and its GDPR page names no SOC 2 report.
  • RevenueDot: launched in 2026 with no SOC 2 report yet, paywalls are single-screen, and its Paddle, Roku and Galaxy Store support has not run a real store purchase.

Using two of them together

RevenueCat lists Superwall as an integration, so many apps keep RevenueCat for purchases and run Superwall paywalls on top; Superwall now also offers its own purchase backend. RevenueDot lists Superwall as an integration partner for events too, so Superwall paywalls on the RevenueCat SDK keep working when the SDK points at RevenueDot.

RevenueDot and RevenueCat can run side by side: RevenueDot forwards each store notification to RevenueCat, so both stay current while you compare them. That is how RevenueDot has run in a production app next to RevenueCat since October 2, 2026.

Migration

How migration from RevenueCat works

RevenueDot answers the same API the RevenueCat SDKs call, so the move is an import, a side-by-side run and a one-line release. Nothing in your purchase code changes.

  1. 01

    Import

Create a free Cloud account, then run npx revenuedot import --from-revenuecat with a read-only RevenueCat secret key. It copies apps, SDK keys, products, offerings, customers and purchase history, and it is safe to re-run.

  2. 02

    Run side by side

Point App Store and Google Play server notifications at RevenueDot. RevenueDot forwards each one to RevenueCat, so both systems stay current while you compare them.

  3. 03

    Switch

Ship a release that sets the SDK's proxy URL to https://api.revenuedot.app, then turn RevenueCat off once most active users have updated.

FAQ

RevenueCat vs Superwall vs RevenueDot: questions people ask

Which is cheapest: RevenueCat, Superwall or RevenueDot?

Self-hosted RevenueDot, at $0. On hosted plans, RevenueDot Cloud is free to $10,000 a month and never more than $999: $450 at $100,000 and $999 at $1,000,000. RevenueCat costs $1,000 and $10,000 at those levels. Superwall costs between $0 and the same as RevenueCat, depending on how much revenue converts through its paywalls.

Is RevenueDot a typo for RevenueCat?

No. RevenueDot is a separate product: an open-source backend (AGPL-3.0) that answers the same API the RevenueCat SDKs call, so an app keeps the RevenueCat SDK and points it at RevenueDot. Its first release is v2026.10.03, and it has run next to RevenueCat in a production app since October 2, 2026.

Can Superwall replace RevenueCat?

For the App Store, Google Play and Stripe, yes. Superwall runs entitlements, purchase APIs and webhooks, and says an automated agent can port an app from RevenueCat. It does not cover Amazon or Roku, in-app currency or ad revenue, and your app switches to Superwall's SDK.

Which of the three can I self-host?

Only RevenueDot. Its server and dashboard are open source under AGPL-3.0 and run with Docker and Postgres on your own servers. RevenueCat and Superwall are hosted services; only their SDKs are open source, and neither pricing page lists a self-host option.

Which of the three has SOC 2?

RevenueCat, which publishes a SOC 2 Type II report under NDA. Superwall's GDPR page names no SOC 2 report, and RevenueDot has no certification yet. If you self-host RevenueDot, your own controls apply.

Do I have to change my app code to switch?

To Superwall, yes: you replace the RevenueCat SDK with Superwall's. To RevenueDot, one line: set the SDK's proxy URL to https://api.revenuedot.app before configure, or use a RevenueDot SDK fork. Purchases, restores, offerings and CustomerInfo code stay as they are.
